Looks like Alberto was insulating himself from the decisions in question:

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales signed a highly confidential order in March 2006 delegating to two of his top aides -- who have since resigned because of their central roles in the firings of eight U.S. attorneys -- extraordinary authority over the hiring and firing of most non-civil-service employees of the Justice Department.

I guess Alberto's claim that he knew nothing went wrong when he didn't know what happened starts to make sense now.

He would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you meddling kids.

BTW, this is a fucking deadly leak. Placed between Gonzales Senate testimony and his House testimony, we see him fixed to a position before the memo is leaked. One can only imagine that career Justice employees are out to totally destroy Gonzales and rip this thing open gaping wide.

Make no mistake about it--this is going to be the Alpha and Omega of Bush's scandals. He is in more danger now than at any time of his presidency. The Democrats are terribly united and anyone with half a brain is piling on.

The times we live in! They are simply unbelievable!

I remember a personal one on one lunch with the former AP Washington Bureau chief a few months before the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke. He said news was about dead because nothing was happening in the world anymore.

The last 10 years have been incredibly historic and will be remembered for years and years to come.
