« BILL LEIGHLY SPEAKS! | Main | Go Bill, Go!!! »

This Administration.  It never does settle down into normalcy, does it?  People will ask us what it was like to live in these times.

Claude Allen.  The President's Assistant for Domestic Policy until an abrupt resignation last month.  Turns out he was about to be arrested for low-level retail return fraud.  This is a man who George W. Bush had nominated to sit on the Fourth Circuit.

George W. Bush.  A whirling ball of unlucky incompetence.

What's even more disturbing is that Allen was caught by Target loss prevention agents on January 2. Presumably, police were called. But he wasn't arrested and booked into jail at the time, although police would have had probable cause to do so. I presume Montgomery County police decided to turn a blind eye since they were dealing with a member of the Bush Administration instead of some poor meth head, the type that normally engages in retail exchange theft.

Allen resigns from the Bush Administration on February 9. I can only speculate on the timing of his resignation, but I would suspect the following. Target loss prevention was probably pissed off that Montgomery County PD didn't arrest a guy that they suspected of committing retail theft exchange more than 20 times. Then Hecht's loss prevention comes forward with the goods on Allen - a similar patter of criminal conduct. The police detective assigned to the case realized he better do something. So he probably tried to interview Allen. Allen presumably had legal counsel, so the detective would have had to deal with Allen's attorney. My guess is that this "contact" probably occurred shortly before February 9. Allen's lawyer gave him the heads up. Hence, Allen's prompt resignation to avoid being arrested and formally charged while in the White House.

Again, all speculation on my part, but I have a feeling when the press finds out more about this story, the facts will be very similar to what I've written above.

That has to be it. Frankly, I hope Mr. Allen gets help. He'll do some pscyh and diversion stuff and will keep his law license.
